Once Upon a Read-a-Thon 2018

Overview

The Once Upon a Read-a-Thon is an annual fundraiser for the Canterbury Woods Elementary PTA
that has helped support and grow the 1:1 technology initiative at our school in recent years.
With your support, the PTA has been able to greatly expand the amount of classrooms with 1:1
devices and increase the number of other much needed support technology including printers
and carts to charge and store devices. All proceeds from the fundraiser again this year will be
used to support this program exclusively again this year.

How the Read-a-Thon works

  • Students will collect pledges for either a flat donation or a pledge per minute they read.
  • During a two-week period, students will track their reading minutes each day with the help of a parent or teacher (for our younger students, reading with a parent and guest readers count too)
  • At the end of the Read-a-Thon students will share with those that supported them the total number of minutes they read, collect the pledges and return the funds to school.

There are prizes! Students who participate in the Once Upon a Read-a-Thon will receive a token of appreciation and all student participants will be entered in a raffle to win a brand new Kindle reader! There will also be two $50 Amazon gift cards given to the two classrooms that read the most minutes to help build their classroom libraries! One winner for the lower grades
(Kindergarten – 3rd Grade) and one winner for the upper grades (4th Grade – 6th Grade).

There are Gatherings with Goodies! To kick-off the Read-a-Thon the PTA will hold a Gathering with Goodies – Muffins (formerly known as Muffins with Mom) before school on Friday, March 2 and close out with a second Gathering with Goodies – Donuts (formerly known as Donuts with Dad) before school on Friday, March 16. Gathering With Goodies – Muffins has been rescheduled to Friday, March 9 due to the Nor’easter.

All contributions are tax-deductible donations to the Canterbury Woods PTA (Tax ID #52-
1289100). Pledges can be paid by cash, check, or via Paypal below or at this link, so even out of town relatives can offer their support.

Gather those pledges before the Read-a-Thon reading time begins on Friday, March 2 and read, read, read until Friday, March 16. Pledge payments will be due at school Friday, March 23.

So head to the library or pull out your favorite story and get ready to READ!
